Private Practice

Remember to remove the 'L' plates. Only display the 'L' plates when a provisional license holder is driving. Driving school cars are excempt from this law.

Accompanying a Learner

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for taking the time to assist with private practice lessons.

However, there are some legal requirements. You must:

• be 21 or over and have had your driving licence 3 years or over
• have appropriate insurance cover for yourself and learner
• be patient and understanding

You should also be considerate of the pace of change in vehicle technologies. This means that the current best practices are continually changing and may be very different to when you learnt to drive. You may wish to have a quick look at any of the books the learner may have. These will be what the examiner will be expecting.

be supportive	encourage bad habits
remain calm	shout
use roads to match their ability	complain about errors
learn the new techniques	contradict new techniques
Acknowledge good driving	push their ability
highlight approaching hazards	panic

Following these brief guidelines will assist the learner to get the knowledge and experience to be a safe and effective driver.
